Tonight, in a very welcome return to where it all started, internationally recognized actor Daniel Brühl welcomed to the Berlinale Palast stage ten up and coming actors of their generation – the European Shooting Stars 2016. Brühl himself received the Shooting Stars Award back in 2003 and is star of this year’s Competition entry ALONE IN BERLIN.

EUROPEAN SHOOTING STARS is financially supported by the Creative Europe – MEDIA Programme of the European Union and participating EFP member organisations. Leading jewellery company TESIRO generously donates the annual Shooting Stars Award, presented at tonight’s ceremony to all ten Shooting Stars.

After a weekend of meeting and greeting industry professionals and interviews and introductions with the international entertainment media, tonight’s red carpet arrival and awards ceremony was a thrilling end to a busy few days for these young actors.

The Shooting Stars 2016 are:

Ahead of a busy weekend of events and meetings with the international film industry, this year’s ten European Shooting Stars arrived in Berlin today where they were welcomed in style by Richard Shen, CEO TESIRO, EFP’s long-standing partner for the talent platform. EUROPEAN SHOOTING STARS is financially supported by the Creative Europe – MEDIA Programme of the European Union and participating EFP member organisations.

As one of the world’s leading diamond traders, TESIRO this year will present the young actors with a unique gift that was specially designed for them as a memento of their visit to the Festival.

Now in its 19th year and an annual highlight at the Berlin International Film Festival, the European Shooting Stars programme actively supports young talent from across Europe. A packed schedule of events including industry panels and meetings with internationally acclaimed directors, producers and casting directors, culminates with an exciting awards ceremony on Monday night, which allows many of the actors to experience a red carpet and premiere for the first time. TESIRO will also generously donate the annual Shooting Stars Award, presented to each of the actors at the Berlinale Palast.

The EFP platform is widely seen to be the first step towards success – with past Shooting Stars including Daniel Craig, Alicia Vikander, Pilou Asbæk and Carey Mulligan.
